 GODFATHERS GONDOLIERS: A TRIUMPH

The opening performance of the Godfather's Gondoliers was received with much acclaim by its first night audience yesterday. They were bowled over by the look, feel and sound of the show and the broad range of local talent it showcased. The audience commented on the vim and vigour of the chorus, the delighful singing voices of the principals, the quality of the scenery and the vibrancy of the orchestra.

This show is a brilliantly written update by Barry Goodsell of the Gilbert and Sullivan classic 'The Gondoliers'. This was arguably the best music ever written by Sullivan, at the peak of his powers and this adaptation remains true to the musical score. The setting, lyrics and libretto have been updated to the 1950's, set first act in Venice and second act in New York, between 2 warring Ice Cream empires, with hilarious consequences. Gangsters, Mafiosa types, gangster's molls, unrequited love, the classic G&S plots - all performed with the great enthusiasm of the Sunningdale Savoy Chorus. This show has not been performed locally before - the nearest was Epsom in 2008 so this will be a unique opportunity to see this reworking of a masterpiece.
